We got a spot today, too. What’s the latest on Pine Crest’s CES? Friends with kids there in 2017-2019 absolutely loved it. What’s it like these days? Thinking about fit for my very engaged but also a bit introverted DC who loves to learn and be challenged but isn’t a driver-type personality.
My son is just finishing up 4th grade at Pine Crest. He loves it, and has made great friends both in and out of the CES program. Remember they mix with other kids outside their homeroom for math in 4th, and he’s made plenty of non CES friends at recess too. The kids are just normal kids - not a pressure cooker at all. Just an advanced and interesting curriculum. I would not pass this program up. The curriculum is like night and day compared to his home school. He’s not a go getter either - just a bright kid who wasn’t challenged. He is definitely challenged now. There is homework but they ease them into it slowly and he has learned so much responsibility keeping track of his assignments. He was VERY nervous to switch schools and says he is so glad he did. I had heard some not so great things about Pine Crest in general as a school, but for what it’s worth I think it’s a great school. It’s very welcoming to parents and encourages family participation in a way our home school did not. It has a more relaxed vibe and treats the kids like they are older - which I guess they are because it’s an intermediate school. To my son it’s a lot more fun. They have more special days and events. Every kid is different but I wouldn’t hesitate!
