This is a hot-button issue because most folk want to know the difference between service dogs and emotional support animals because the rules for piblic transportation are very specific. It also involves the WMATA. Everybody agrees it is an accident. What is being debated here is the dog’s presence on the metro.[/quote]

The law is clear on this issue:

“Are emotional support, therapy, comfort, or companion animals considered service animals under the ADA?

A. No. These terms are used to describe animals that provide comfort just by being with a person. Because they have not been trained to perform a specific job or task, they do not qualify as service animals under the ADA.

The one point that confuses me is why the metro police now say they didn’t notice the service animal vest under the sweater? So it was an emotional support dog wearing a service animal vest??[/quote]
