Many private schools in the DMV and around the country have the same spike in apps and yields due to school shutdowns ranging from a few months to 18-24 mos. Most communities understood this and the schools business model and waived the caps given the crazy situation. Any business owner or operator gets it. This is a lasting effect of the govt shutting down schools in DC for almost two years. These schools had to operated in crisis mode with tons of local govt uncertainty for two years. So much for “community understanding” or prioritizing effective education.
You cannot be serious. They collected over $4 MILLION dollars for over enrolling and want a slap on the wrist. Why should the community take the hit because they are greedy.
Do you know what it costs to educate each student? That money isn’t lining anyone’s pocket. I think the ANC comes off as completely unhinged here.
+1. The ANC comes off very poorly here. The cost of tuition does not cover the cost of educating each student, so no one's getting richer. And what "hit" exactly is the community taking? GDS admitted that it failed to file the notice of increased enrollment in a timely fashion. It's truly bizarre how much the ANC leader seems to despise the school. This is NOT how public officials should conduct themselves.
GDS comes off very poorly and shows it contempt for the neighborhood by not even submitting required paperwork. I bet they were hoping no one would ask for it and they could pump up admissions even more. You know thats what they wanted to do but they got caught. It’s like they are standing up and giving the finger to the ANC. Wonder what other things they “forgot” to submit? I bet they are very understanding if you are late submitting your re-enrollment forms or your tuition. Is this the values that GDS teaches-game the system, agreements and contracts are for suckers, deadlines are for poor people, screw the neighbors(they are all white males), etc? Looking forward to GDS suing residents of the neighborhood because GDS has more money and can crush the littles.
You are clearly from the ANC, and, you know what, I feel sorry for you. There is no contempt from GDS for the neighborhood, and there is no intentional malice. It just makes no sense for a school to invest that much money into its new campus only to try to snub the ANC. I feel sorry for you because it must be awful going through life with the attitude that everyone is out to mock you or to take advantage of you. And as for the white male obsession, you do realize that the Head of School and Board president are both white men, right?
Hey you are the one calling the ANC commissioner an “ angry white male”. By your response I can see why the ANC was limiting time. They wanted to let the neighbors speak, not get personally attack(as you personally attack posters here) and wanted the meeting to end before 5am.
NP. The neighbors were mixed in their opinions but they only cut off those who were speaking for cooperation and understanding. It reminded me of authoritarian regimes. I don't really have a stake as don't live close enough to have felt the impact of the school traffic a lot but I just want to clarify facts.
