Finished this show this weekend. Fun show! I love the mom. Aneesa was great, too. Does Never Have I Ever remind anyone else of Crazy Ex Girlfriend? The therapist scenes are the most similar, with the witty banter and inappropriate border crossing attempts with a charismatic funny therapist. But other plot elements are similar, like trying to decide between multiple potential boyfriends (one East Asian or half, another a rich white dude with a lawyer dad), main character misreading social situations, digging oneself deeper into a hole... Devi is sort of like a prequel to Rebecca.
I just finished the show. Definitely thought the therapists were similar between the two shows. And the boyfriend dilemma. As for Rebecca and Devi.... Both are self centered for sure, but Devi is at a time in her life where it's developmentally normal to be pretty self centered. If she doesn't grow out of that she could become more like Rebecca.
