I didn't watch the podcast. What is the harmful misinformation he is spreading?
I listened to about 20 minutes of the supposedly controversial podcast and got horribly bored and turned it off. (It’s almost 3 hours long.) Don’t think I made it to anything questionable. I’m willing to bet the majority of people making a fuss haven’t listened to the whole thing, but jumping on bandwagons is so easy. I’m keeping my Spotify account, but I doubt I’ll ever listed to Joe Rogan again. I imagine he’s picked up more than a few new devotees with all this hubbub, though, so well done, people!
I felt the same way. I have trouble believing there are “idiots“ out there who really listened to this 3 hr science podcast and then made a decision based on this info. Anyone who came out of this podcast anti-vax was probably anti-vax when they went in. Abs why are they probably anti-vax? Because they think the government is trying to hide information from us. And having this guy be banned only enforces the belief that there are secrets that the “plebs” aren’t given access to. Plus, the first part of the episode clearly stated that this guy had been banned from twitter and was not supported by mainstream scientists. It’s not like Rogan was like “hey everyone, here’s a mainstream doctor who is a great source of information.” To me, Rogan asked him pointed follow up questions on everything he said, and honestly at a certain point the guy started to sound a little loony to me. I was mostly interested because I wanted to know why he’d been banned from twitter. I think twitter banning him ironically made people much more interested in his views.
Actually 20-somethings do and they did. If you poll college aged and attending 20 somethings that refuse to vax, they will parrot something Rogan said. I don't care if they are at Harvard, they are still impressionable. How many people were in their 20's listened to Rush Limbaugh and thought he was "on point" but he was just a propogandist. I don't think Spotify should stop Joe Rogan's podcast but they should take down misinformation and not post ones that are full of misinformation. So he does a 3 hour podcast, it's reviewed for content and not posted if it is false. Just like bleeping the cuss words. He literally said any college student that gets the vax is an idiot, they are young and healthy and don't need it. Then he comes out and says, hey im not a doctor... but the damage is done. The best propogandists give 95% great on point information and 5% false... that's how propaganda works.
I don't think there were a lot of 20 somethings listening to Rush Limbaugh... But I mean, at one point do we decide adults are adults and can make their own decisions? It's a problem when a legal adult who is educated at HARVARD can listen to a fully trained and qualified scientist on a talk show and come to a conclusion based on that information, but we still blame that conclusion on "misinformation."
