I read through this thread and I don’t think it’s been mentioned but many of these kids don’t actually live in Alexandria city. I grew up here and have many friends that went to this school. I went to another high school and I knew a lot of people that actually lived in Maryland.
Why would anyone actively choose TCW/ACHS if the don’t live in the city?
Because it’s close to the edge of the border and many live in PG county so it’s slightly better. When I was in high school a little farther out there were a few but not many. They policed it a little better and our school was farther out from the VA/MD border.
Yeah no the school is no where near the border actual reasons - parent works in acps and brings their kid, kid lives with or spends time with a relative in the city but parents are living in pg county, lots of families have members who moved from alex city to pg county, still have family here
Yes it is close to the border. It’s one of the first high schools you’d run into if you lived in Oxon hill, temple hills, fort Washington etc. Maybe West Potomac could be closer but I’m not familiar with people that went there. I’m telling you I grew up here and I know real people that graduated from this school and their parents did not work in Alexandria or for the school system or city. However, many of them do have a relative that lives here so it’s easy to use the address. The majority of the kids I grew up with lived in Maryland but attended TC Williams. It’s harder to do this at other public schools because many of them are a farther drive. Also TC Williams is somewhat metro/bus accessible more than the other schools closer to the border of MD. If I had my kids in these schools I would demand an audit somehow because this is the real problem.
