Exactly.  And maybe at one point we could have envisioned getting rid of masks if vaccination rates head increased quickly. However, enough people refused to get the vaccine and the virus mutated.  That means we end up having to wear masks for longer.[/quote]

We have one of the highest vaccination rates in the country. Much if the world isn’t vaccinated.

Offramps are coming soon. The doomers don’t want to define an offramp because they know it will be unacceptable to the vast majority of the public, unless it is achievable in the next few months. So they’re trying as long as possible to keep from defining one.

NOPE. Won't happen. Because the majority of us aren't mentally ill.  You and those of your ilk are.  The rest of us are calm and cool, following directions set by Dr. Fauci. I’m fully vaxxed (as is DH) and our kids will get the vax. We have been masking too. So we aren’t antivaxxers nor are we anti-mask. But we are tired of the end goal being very nebulous. First it was flatten the curve. Then until we have vaccines. Then until we get though the Delta peak. Then just until kids can be vaccinated. Now people are saying we need “low community transmission” which is insane because who the hell cares about transmission. It was supposed to be about preventing hospitalizations and deaths, which we by and large have been for the vaccinated community at least. A bunch of unvaxxed people dying or getting put on ventilators is not moving me to continue masking my children at school with no ending in sight. And there are a lot more of us than you realize who are pro-science, pro-vaccine, and ready to move on. At some point all these precautions aren’t worth it to avoid getting a bad cold that isn’t ever going away. All you “just a little bit longer” folks have turned being “COVID conscious” into your identity and you have no idea how to drop it, but that isn’t my issue. We will soon accept COVID the way we accept all other risks in life.[/quote]

Go back and read your post.  You're mad because there is an ebb and flow to the nature of the virus.  You sound like you're two, not the parent of kids.  Grow up and face the fact that this is new territory and every time one component changes, another changes in reaction.  It is a chain.

[b]So get control of your anxiety.  See a mental health professional.  Learn to deal with the fact that the world is not dealing in absolutes right now.  Learn how to soothe yourself from your self-made anxieties.  Learn how to flex.[/b]

I will add that the world was NEVER in absolutes.  We felt like we were in control because we were in a country that was doing well post WW11, we had lots of earning power and our devices gave us more choices than ever in our lives.  We were raised to "be anything we want to be" and earn gold stars, but despite all that the world was still NEVER in our control and NEVER in absolutes.  It was a mirage. Our culture allowed us to think we have way more control over things than we do.  This is nature fighting back. We are not in control, there are no givens.  Grow up and be grateful for what you do have.[/quote]

Of course nothing is in absolutes and we did adapt as things “ebbed and flowed” throughout the pandemic. But literally the “continue masking” crowd is now all about lowering community spread. Which is a complete 180 from the original goal of lowering the death and severe illness toll. So this isn’t a matter of evolving strategies to prevent death/hospitalization, but a complete change in *why* we’re doing what we’re doing. And I’m telling you because I have lived in this area 15 years (and DH grew up in the DC area), so we know a lot of people of different backgrounds here … I’m seeing a complete change in how willing people are to do this anymore. [b]Even my friends who were wiping down groceries, masking their kids outdoors, etc. are ready to get rid of isolation for close contacts in school because they don’t want their children sacrificing anymore education time[/b]. They’re ready for masks to be gone by spring once kids are vaxxed. If you think the majority of people will be willing to continue the status quo once we’re 2 years into the pandemic and a year after vaccines came out, you are deluding yourself and need to take your own advice to seek therapy for your anxiety.

And I find it fascinating that when anyone on this board expresses that public opinion is shifting on people being willing to continue masking, the result is angry insults. You literally claimed I need mental health treatment (which is basically grasping at straws when you don’t have a good counter argument). Or the low ball insult of being an “anti vaxxer” even though many fully vaxxed people I know are ready to give up the mask. Now I’m being told I sound like a toddler because I have an opinion that doesn’t align with the absolute most cautious end of the COVID spectrum. You have no real arguments, just underwhelming rote message board insults.[/quote]

For real?  They don’t want their unvaxxed kids in isolation for close contacts, just send them to school?  So the time limit on thinking of others just ran out for you all I guess? Ok then.  I am not really a fan of the masks, but that sentence just made me happy for them!

They don’t want to keep this going indefinitely and are ready to discuss next measures. We’re on the cusp of vaccines for 5+ which should make things more like the high schools where vaccinated teenagers don’t need to isolate because of close contact. This next step is coming whether you like it or not. And I’m not saying we’ll drop masks this second. It’s going to take a few more months to get kids vaccinated. But look at the schools in Europe that are dropping mask requirements. You can’t claim they’re all “crazy anti vaxxers who hate masks” over there.

We could have 100% of the US population get COVID and it wouldn’t matter so long as we don’t have overrun hospitals and rampant deaths.
