Free government assistance obtain the ID — or acceptable forms of ID that don’t disproportionately impact any group of people.  It doesn’t make sense to me that a student ID with a picture issued by a state university would not be acceptable - when a gun license is just fine.

So, older person born at home in a tiny town in, let’s say Alabama. No birth certificate, no Baptismal record, might have a family Bible indicating their birthdate.   The onus should not be on this citizen to spend the considerable  time and money it would take — if it is even possible— to meet the standards for obtaining a Real ID in, say, Hawaii, in order to fulfill a drummed up solution to a problem that doesn’t appreciably exist. It’s worth pointing out, yet again, that many of the forms of ID deemed acceptable require a birth certificate before they will be issued.  [/quote]

Nope, there are people born in the 1950's and 1960's who were born like this. Anyone home born or born in rural areas where parents didn't "register" their children when they were born, and were never in the system in terms of social security etc. There are more than you think.

I swear, there are a lot of right wingers demanding IDs to vote who have no clue how so many in this country were born and raised, particularly in rural areas.
