IB students didn't get a free pass this year because of COVID. They got assessed based on their IAs, which you could argue was worse for the students, because many were banking on doing well on tests and shirked on their IAs. There was a lot of student scrambling in April to redo things once IB announced that decision. The pass rate was high this year because the school (IB coordinator and all the IB teachers) worked their butts off all year getting the students to turn in all the stuff. The IB program is stronger than it used to be. -2020 IB diploma graduate parent
The IB coordinator does not supervise RMIB. and she is not the administrator of the students. Although she definitely likes to assume the role when she isn't running off to Australia or China or wherever she allows the IB to send her during the school year. Funny how these discussions are never about the magnet coordinator. Some people don't even know who he is, even though he is in charge of the program. Why do we never hear about him? The teachers have worked their butts off always. But the difference is that no one in that office appreciates what that truly means anymore. You may find it to be a stronger program, but many parents and students would disagree with your opinion. You are also misinformed about the grading this year. Students were scored mostly with internally graded assessments and some external assessments, just not the exams. But did you know that these grades were also determined, in part, by the prior performance or assessment history of the school? So in other words, the scores received in 2020 are in part due to the consistent success of students from years past. Multiple years past. Students who were held to the higher standard of taking the externally graded exams in all subjects. I assume you also know that students were not supposed to make any changes to work that had already been submitted for grading to teachers, so any redoing of internal assessments done at RM, authorized by the coordinator, teachers, etc., was in violation of the established rules of the IB. So yes, the RM class of 2020 was lucky.
