Well, the name change is certainly related the topic of the thread. Wilson was a real p.o.s. and one of our schools should not be named after him, imo. Look up his crappy legacy on race before you disagree.
Not a lot of white people who don’t have some record of doing, supporting, living through or taking advantage of racist policies from about 1000BC to about the 21st cen. Should they all be shunned? That is quite the entitled opinion for a minority group with little financial or political power to feel entitled to enforce. History is filled with winner and losers but it is what it is. The winners name stuff, the losers get the scraps... if they are lucky.
NP. Disagreeing with your statement. Woodrow Wilson effectively decimated what was becoming a black middle class in DC. That discussion is very relevant. We aren't talking about what random white people did. But his atrocities were disgusting - would you agree with having a school named after Hitler? I'm not trying to convince people of changing the name but when you look at his particular history it is truly awful. Many black families in DC were hurt by it - it cut off their ability to hand down wealth to their families. This is well documented and I think at a minimum people should know the history before making stupid statements. Stop trying to move the bar of the discussion - it only reveals your own ignorance and biases. Comparing Woodrow Wilson to Adolf Hitler?! I sure hope that you didn’t learn history from DCPS. Your ignorance is stunning.
