We had a good experience at the Bethesda Premier Cup this past weekend. We had to change fields, but the new venues were excellent and easy to reach. We have kids in 3 age groups and our club had a number of teams in the tournament. They all had a great time. Excellent competition. The brackets were spot on. No blowouts in games in most age groups. All were very close. The referee teams were some of the best I have seen at a tournament and I am a referee. So, whether we were in a time warp or on a different planet than the rest of the folks on this thread, our experience was quite different. Bethesda deserves a lot of credit for salvaging the majority of games for this tournament. Many area tournaments were cancelled completely or reduced to the minimum of age groups. BSC had U9s-U15s playing. I saw some great soccer out there. As for the level of competition, it was as good as it gets. A few top teams may have been missing, but not many. With nearly 800 teams in the tournament to start, this is a big undertaking. Intense rain and a pre-Thanksgiving snowstorm for the first time in 20 years caught the entire region off guard, but BSC was able to move quickly and save most of the games. As for the 'crappy grass fields'...we've been to tournaments all over the US and even the most prestigious tournaments end up with some teams playing on fields that are far less than perfect. In the end, its the same for both teams. As for next year. We are looking forward to the Bethesda Premier Cup already!
haha. this is great. good for you. you got VERY lucky this year then. Our girls were playing in STANDING WATER on Sunday at Muldoons farm. This is ridiculous. Top teams playing top teams should not be playing on a slip n slide. (no one should!). It was dangerous......didnt showcase any talent at all....majority of the fields were on a harsh incline/decline.....was a total waste of time and money. I feel bad for those that had to drive in from Ohio, MAINE, etc for that shit show of a tournament. Every single year this occurs. This year was the worst though. Invite half as many teams and put them on good fields and get your reputation back BSC!!! Parents are pushing to NOT play in this tourney next year.
