I do not trust people who kill things for fun. There is something missing in their soul. I think people who are so afraid of the world that they make themselves less safe by having a gun in their home are dangerous plain and simple. It is not even remotely rational.
What about option #3 - people who don’t hunt or have guns for self defense, but just enjoy the sport of target shooting?
How do you enjoy your "hobby" when you know that your ability to do that costs countless innocent children and women and men their lives every single day in this country? 1,300 children a year. A woman in the U.S. is fatally shot by her current or former intimate partner every 16 hours. But I'm glad you enjoy your hobby. Let me know when you find your soul?
You own a car, right? Cars kill countless innocent children and women and men every single day in this country. Over 30,000 a year. Four people every hour. If you enjoy your car then you are a soulless wretch.
I hate this analogy so much. The primary purpose of cars is NOT to kill. The primary purpose of cars is to transport people and things from one place to another. When cars are used incorrectly, they kill. In contrast, guns are meant to kill. That is their sole purpose. They might be used to kill animals for food, but they're still being used to kill. That is particularly true with an AR-15, since it's not a particularly good hunting weapon. Its sole purpose is to kill other living things in an efficient manner. That is completely and utterly different than a car.
