Is it the same at Eastern? Wow, so there are really only 75 spots for TPM for the whole county.
No. Traditionally there have been 125 TPMS spots with 25 held for kids zoned for the school. This makes it EASIER for the rest of the county, not harder.
25 seats for local kids and 100 for the rest. No - it does not make it easier for the rest; there is a budget for 125 students, of which 25 is reserved for TPMS. So rest - 25 middle schools - compete for 100 seats. Instead of 26 middle schools competing for 125 seats. It makes it EASIER only for the TPMS kids. Whether you support this policy or not (I used to support this policy even though we are not zoned for TPMS, but now I am not so sure), it is up-is-downism to say this makes it easier for the rest of the schools.
I mean, if it weren't for those 25 seats, then TPMS would have 100 seats like Eastern. The truth is that we have no idea what MCPS is going with this, but the point is that it appears living in bounds can't confer THAT large of an advantage if kids in the 99th percentile across the board, with good grades, who are in-bounds, also got rejections yesterday.
