CNN headline that he Alex Pretti had a physical confrontation/altercation with ICE officers the week prior to shooting and broke a rib. It’s behind a paywall.
https://www.cnn.com/2026/01/27/us/alex-pretti-protesters-minneapolis-invs CNN is free. Sounds like was filming at a different location and got tackled.
From the article: "The earlier incident started when he stopped his car after observing ICE agents chasing what he described as a family on foot, and began shouting and blowing his whistle, according to a source who asked not to be named out of fear of retribution. Pretti later told the source that five agents tackled him and one leaned on his back – an encounter that left him with a broken rib. The agents quickly released him at the scene." If I were walking or driving and saw a family on foot being chased by ICE, I'd like to think that I'd also stop my car, get out, blow a whistle if I had one, film the interaction if I was able to, and make lots of noise. Why? Because it's important that citizens bear witness to these acts. It's important that the people being chased know that someone witnessed the act and can act as an eyewitness. It's important that the ICE agents know that chasing a family is not the right way to do their job. I personally wouldn't tease the officers or use expletives as some public witnesses do (not saying Pretti did), but I would certainly bear witness.
