If memory serves, the girls went on some type of boating excursion, and left early. Their phones likely did not have service.

It really is not Ribe and Carter’s responsibility to report her missing at the hotel- she was a girl they had just met the night before. Not their responsibility to keep track of her. They almost certainly didn’t even know her last name ffs. And odds were she crashed in another friend’s room or fell asleep in a pool chair (which they would all have a laugh about later). Not missing or dead.

It is so easy to look back and find so much of this highly alarming (knowing what we know now) but at the time it simply wasn’t alarming to any of these students and I can see why. As utterly stupid & irresponsible as it is, none of this would be super out of the ordinary among partying college students.
