I do think this mom was probably loving toward her son and wanted to do right by him. I also think despite her wealth in many ways her life was hell. She knew something was drastically wrong with her son and frankly I think Asperger's was the least of his issues. It is highly disturbing she used guns to connect with him. Even if this was the only way she could bond with him she had to have a great deal of denial or poor judgment to encourage this "hobby."

Also, if she was so concerned about his mental health she should have searched his room from time to time. I know that horrifies some parents, but if you are worried about your child's mental health and your child won't communicate much with you or attend therapy it may be the only way you find out your child is suicidal/homicidal/abusing drugs/bulimic or what have you. Maybe she did search the basement where he lived and if she did I hope she went through every channel possible to get him help.[/quote]
