Cap has been the only real program in a talent rich area, of course they will have recruiting success. My contention has always been that the program has had very little to do with that success other than being the only game in town to pool top talent. The coaches aren’t great usually, the admin is a joke, and the recruiting apparatus is almost nonexistent. Cap blue 27 just had a wonderful recruiting cycle, but most parents would tell you that the club did very little to make it happen. Look at the bottom of the roster kids, they committed to places like Monmouth, Kennesaw State, F&M, and Denison. Good for them and they will have a great time, but if the cap program had that much pull, those kids would probably have been able to play at better programs.
. I think this gives too much credit to the club and not enough to the players themselves. At the end of the day, recruiting is driven by the athlete. The player has to perform on the field, communicate with coaches, attend camps, maintain grades, and build relationships throughout the process. No recruiting apparatus can do that for them. What a club like Capital provides is the platform: high-level competition, strong tournament schedules, exposure to college coaches, and the opportunity to be seen alongside other talented players. Once that opportunity is there, it’s up to each athlete to take advantage of it. The fact that players committed to a wide range of schools doesn’t prove the club failed them. It reflects the reality that different athletes have different goals, academic interests, skill levels, and college preferences. For many families, schools like Monmouth, Kennesaw State, F&M, or Denison are exactly where they wanted to be. Great clubs simply create the environment where that can happen, and Capital has clearly done that for a lot of athletes over the years! I mean actions speak louder than any fake news or complaints on this board.
I wasn’t trying to give credit to the program, in fact, quite the opposite. The pro-cap camp always points to recruiting successes, but my point is that those are due to the player and parents and usually have very little to do with the club. This is the case for most of the clubs, but some clubs do have real recruiting coordinators who can help a little. The 4 and 5 star cap blue girls would have gone to harvard or duke regardless of club; the real test is helping the bottom of a roster get results too. And you’re right, those schools might be exactly where the families want to be and kudos to them. But most cap blue parents that i have met say stuff like “we went to cap blue so my kid could go play in the ivy league/ACC/B10,” so it would be interesting to see how much actual support the lower level kids received. Bottom line, if you’re considering cap blue, you are doing it because your kid will hopefully be on a team that plays in top brackets and your kid gets exposure. That’s it, you’re going to have to do all the work, cap isn’t going to do much else other than existing. As seen with their recruiting lists, that is enough for some girls.
