Other media outlet can run it for her? Will Bari let someone else take it for their network? (Big of her, and big of me to ask)
Seriously? The whole point is to keep the public from seeing it. Why would she give it to another outlet?
Maybe she wanted a more balanced story? It's quite possible that the story on CECOT was well-researched, factual, etc... but still negative against it. I know it's a hard concept to fathom, but journalism used to be far more neutral than it is today. I miss Walter Cronkite, who maintained that journalists must adhere to high ethical standards, including fairness, balance, and accountability. He understood that trust is built through consistent, honest reporting and that journalists must earn the public's confidence by being transparent and reliable. Today's "news" is anything but that anymore.
I say this respectfully, but what would be the “positive” spin on the sending of US detainees to CECOT? The prison had been flagged for human rights violations way before US detainees were sent there.
The organizations flagging CECOT aren't exactly unbiased. Then again, if you're worried about CECOT, feel free to help find another country where people can be deported. They can't stay here.
Really? All these organizations "aren't exactly unbiased" including our own State Department? Please provide me with "unbiased" sources that say that the government of El Salvador is NOT committing human rights abuses--in CECOT or elsewhere. I promise to read all the links you provide. *United States Department of State: Their annual reports document credible accounts of unlawful killings, forced disappearances, torture, arbitrary arrests, and harsh prison conditions in El Salvador. The 2022 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices specifically covers events through that year, including abuses tied to the state of emergency declared in March 2022 (pre-dating CECOT's opening in early 2023). Link: https://www.state.gov/reports/2022-country-reports-on-human-rights-practices/el-salvador *Human Rights Watch: They have extensively reported on mass arbitrary detentions, enforced disappearances, torture, ill-treatment, and due process violations under the state of emergency, with a 2025 report specifically detailing torture and abuses against detainees (including Venezuelans) in CECOT. Link: https://www.amnesty.org/en/location/americas/central-america-and-the-caribbean/el-salvador/report-el-salvador/ *Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR): This body of the Organization of American States has documented systematic illegal and arbitrary detentions, torture, and other violations amid the state of emergency, which has fueled overcrowding and abuses in facilities including CECOT. Link: https://www.oas.org/en/iachr/jsForm/?File=/en/iachr/media_center/preleases/2024/207.asp *Cristosal: A Salvadoran human rights organization that tracks violations and co-published reports on torture, disappearances, and inhumane conditions in CECOT, including evidence from survivors and families. Link: https://cristosal.org/EN/ (main site with reports; see their joint work with Human Rights Watch above for CECOT details) *United Nations Human Rights Office (OHCHR): UN experts have raised alarms over deportations to El Salvador leading to risks of torture, ill-treatment, and other violations in prisons like CECOT, amid widespread abuses under the state of emergency. Link: https://www.ohchr.org/en/press-releases/2025/04/un-experts-alarmed-illegal-deportations-united-states-el-salvador *Center for Gender & Refugee Studies (CGRS): As part of a coalition, they have gathered evidence from CECOT survivors and families documenting abuses against migrants, including torture and inhumane treatment in the prison. Kennedy Human Rights: They have urged UN intervention based on reports of horrific abuses against migrants in CECOT, including violations of international human rights standards.
