Expect lawsuit by the fired coach against the University of Michigan followed by a quick settlement involving millions of dollars. U Michigan was informed of the inappropriate relationship in September, but waited until after the season ended and after national signing day for recruits before firing him in a very public manner. U Michigan has wanted this coach to be gone for many months. Thought it had a way out that would negate severance payments.
Not sure why it would matter. He was paid for the work he did. Michigan is an at will employment state.
Michigan’s status as an at will employment state is irrelevant. Moore had a contract, and a reasonably sophisticated one with agents for him and lawyers for both parties. Moore may sue in breach of contract but from available facts he will have a challenging time prevailing in any way. You never know - Kevin Ollie at UConn won a large judgment on difficult facts. No offense but the thought of a major college football coach being an at will employee is not worthy of consideration. The sport is all about money. I concur in Michigan’s desire to find a new coach and this scandal while damaging to Warde Manuel provides an opportunity many supporters wanted. Any new superstar coach is going to want the question of the AD resolved quickly. Typically coaches want their AD to work for.
