I used to love living here. Now, I feel overwhelmed and sad most days, like Trump is destroying everything on a macro level — and making us all in DC less safe (and afraid) on a micro level.
Well, we've all paid for tariffs (average $1200/household) and the still-increasing prices of groceries are noticeable. Next month my state will decide on a 19% electric rate increase. Gas is cheaper but I don't drive much, and low oil prices affect a small income I derive from oil and gas royalties. What's worse is the overall demoralization about this administration. I do know people who will be impacted by changes to Medicaid (if nothing else, the increased recertification frequency--more paperwork/bureaucracy), SNAP, etc. But not even that. The overall damage to American principles is the worst. Sure, we can live with that. Plenty of people live decent lives under oppressive regimes--which is why they don't just collapse. Also, the refusal to acknowledge climate change, and the expected consequences of reversing efforts to remediate that, will have long term consequences.
