of the big 3 (ML, NL &DCE) teams only about 15 players will get to play at a serious college program the rest will play at D3 schools they never would have considered going to, college club or not pls in college at all. I
How is that a problem. Isn't up to the player and his parents to decide whether playing at the D3 level is worth it. And regardless of that view, I'd argue a majority of D3 programs recruit looking for kids that play on club teams. Very few are looking at school only players.
The problem is that Most of these families are not investing their time with the hopes of playing for Hobart and Bodwin which is the likely best case scenario. Its a free country and you can do what you want with your time and money but from my experience travel lacrosse is like playing the lottery if a lottery ticket was 5 grand a year.
And? So people don't understand statistics, probability, etc. Oh, that never ever happens...where is my sarcasm button. There is a market out there and there are private enterprises providing services to that market. No one is forcing parents to pay those fees. Who made you the arbiter of what people should spend their money on? I'd love for my kid to play D3 if that is his desire. Even if he didn't play D3 or club or anything in college, I'd look at paying the travel fees well worth it. I've made some great friends from many of the parents on the teams - I'm still friends and talk with lots of parents that have moved to other travel teams. I've taken great trips to places I'd probably never go but for travel lacrosse. I've had great conversations with my kids in the car ride about anything and everything while driving to tournaments. My kids have learned about team work, how to balance school and sports, how to work hard to reach a goal, etc. Has that cost money? Sure, but most things in life cost money. I don't care about other people's reasons for doing it. Those are mine. I wouldn't trade those memories for almost anything in the world.
Amen brother!!!
