This is all just guessing but I get the sense that maybe the mother was in denial about her son's issues. I can't imagine what it would be like to have to deal with a child's mental health issues for twenty years but I'm sure it was awful. I think she may have found that the guns and going to the shooting range was the one way she was able to connect with her son. Sadly, it was a horrendous mistake. I blame the mother for having guns in the house. I would never own a gun under any circumstances but it defies logic that someone would even consider having them in a home with a troubled young man. The fact is, if she hadn't had them, it would have been a lot more difficult for the shooter to get them. On a different note, I read that Dick's has temporarily suspended sales of assault weapons. I think I read somewhere that the shooter had tried to buy a gun there but was refused. I don't know if this has been confirmed. I also read that he was carrying his older brother's ID but I din't know if that has been confirmed. Perhaps, he tried to buy a gun with his brother's ID. If someone tries to buy a gun illegally, does the store have an obligation to report them?
