I think its weird to have your clubs top team be the B/developmental division.
Especially kids leaving ECRL teams to go play MLsNext Bteam at clubs that don't have real MLS Next teams. What's the point?
I think some clubs have been told that they will be moved up to MLSNext I or will get that tier as well.
They have been told they will move up but have to start with B teams? That sounds like BS clubs tell parents.
This is the exact same thing ECNL has done recently with RL? For example Highland boys in Asheville.
Not really. ECRL is "regional league". ECNL is "national league". Some smaller clubs have only regional league teams, and that's fine. Bigger clubs have "national league" teams. A club having a B team or developmental team as their top team in an age group is just....strange. How can you have a B team without an A team?
This is just spin about ECRL (it's basically the b league) and you could call clubs having its A squad in ECNL "strange" too (although I wouldn't). The real truth is clubs that used to shine in USYS are looking for a better platform, so these club's B teams are likely still in USYS, so you're missing the bigger picture. Some are trying to move up via ECRL and others through MLSN2. The hope is there be some sort of promotion/relegation system -- the problem is that's much harder to make work at a club vs. team level. The competition between the 2 is resulting in clubs to have to pick one over the other.
