There is analysis and bad news everywhere. Nobody I know, including the people who voted for our current president, is happy. Other than calling our representatives, what can we do? Feeling so hopeless and just want to do something. Can’t believe it’s gotten so bad. Do we just wait and watch the bleeding continue? How do we stop the bleeding? Collectively, surely we can do something? Jeff, I’ve been reading your blog posts - clearly you are very knowledgeable and bright. Any ideas?
I recently learned about a group where I live that started with a few USDA and VA employees locally who were worried, and one of them happened to be connected to the group Indivisible. Our reps are avoiding town halls (actually, they seem to be hiding generally) so right now they are working on organizing and independent town hall. They have some independents and Republicans as well as Dems/progressives and the group has grown quickly. The goal at the moment is to organize an independent town hall and people have volunteered to be part of specific task groups. They have also connected with the local League of Women Voters, who hesitated and first and now are interested (but will not be able to commit to anything until fall). The aim here is to concentrate on non-partisanship and civility while also getting individual stories on record (including short video statements to be part of a larger video project). Look for citizen groups like that. I went to a meeting of the above people, they had been meeting at a single table at a coffee house and yesterday the place was completely packed, chairs were borrowed from someplace else as the place filled up and they are now seeking a larger meeting place.
