I don't know if it's quite racism, as much as that Banneker feels almost like an HBCU -- i.e. "safe space" for Black Excellence.

Honestly unless the school has an ability/interest in keeping it a certain percentage AA I imagine it will become half white. There are so many more families staying in the city and simply not enough high performing schools.[/quote]

My kids aren't at the school, so don't call me a 'booster', but I have heard positive things on here and from a few neighbors enrolled in the EPIC/IB track at Eastern in recent years. As seats in other schools get harder to find, it will be interesting to see if in bounds participation increases there as well.

I think it depends on the availability of quality seats vs population. So there are many factors. One is whether DCI expands/replicates. One is how successful Sojourner Truth is. One is how things go at McKinley Tech. One is MacArthur. [/quote]

These are all good things, I think -- from my view, there are almost 10 high schools that will work with college bound kids who have high expectations --- Walls, Banneker, BASIS, JR, Latin, DCI, McKinley Tech, maybe MacArthur. The fact that only two are by right (and both are in Wars 3) adds anxiety for all non-Ward 3 families, but there seem to be lots of options.[/quote][/quote]

As an Eastern inboundary caucasian parernt of a 5th and 8th grader, it's not on my list for the 8th grader but definitly on my radar for my 5th grader.[/quote]
