If anyone believes billionaires send their kids to MCPS or cares deeply about MCPS, I think you’re delusional. If anyone on the BoE, Council or MCPS CO believe parents (the majority of taxpayers and voters) will tolerate a declining school system as the Council raises property taxes and MCPS dishes out fat six-figure salaries, you too are delusional. If MCPS doesn’t focus on basic education, keeping facilities renovated and safe, make competitive programs merit based versus friends-and-family programs, watch the slide turn into an avalanche. Anyone who believes pet projects and social agendas such as electric buses or millions wasted on kid museum and bocce ball; keep it up. In time the tolerance for corruption wears out.
Well said. The truly wealthy have never relied on MCPS to educate their kids. It was the middle class and low-income families who relied on MCPS. It used to be that upper middle class families felt they comfortable and they were getting a good deal with MCPS, but now, those families are fleeing for private. Increasingly, even moderately middle class families are looking to how they can help their children escape the hellscape that is MCPS too.
