Doesn’t make me feel like they’re trustworthy.
What does Biden’s admin censor? Not trying to argue, just want your pov. Thanks.
NP. I’m not the PP but I am pretty convinced that the aggressive prosecution of Dr. Haim in Texas is a very serious political misstep by the Biden DOJ. https://www.justice.gov/usao-sdtx/pr/doctor-charged-unauthorized-access-personal-information-pediatric-patients-texas
 Republicans out here telling us they think HIPAA is a joke. You guys don’t know or understand what “aggressive prosecution” is, it just seems to be “average prosecution [of your sacred cows].”
Look, I’m not taking a position on the substance. But what I am telling you is that it’s a political misstep and feeds into the narrative that the Democrats use censorship, misuse of the judicial system, and threats of prison to quell political dissent. I’m not a Republican, either, but I’m not willfully blind like a lot of Democrats are. A big percentage of the country thinks that Trump was politically prosecuted. I don’t agree, but a lot of people believe this. Now you have the DOJ going after someone who was apparently earnestly trying to blow the whistle on what a lot of voters consider medicalized child abuse? It feeds into the existing narrative, and builds what OP is talking about. Hyperventilating about how the prosecution is correct legally is useless and not helpful. Biden has a serious problem in how he is perceived and it’s time for Democrats to be realistic about that.
dp; I understood what you meant. I think that many democrats (like hyperventilating pp) choose to start complaining about republicans reflexively instead of discussing the issues on substance. There has to be reasons why Trump is more trusted by the people sampled for this poll, and if people don’t want to discuss the possibilities, they should create their own thread to talk about Trump and republicans.
PP here. You get it. This sort of poll — which I suspect would be widely replicated among swing voters and undecideds in particular — should be ringing all sorts of alarm bells for the Democrats. But those alarm bells aren’t ringing. The reflexive response is instead “but the Republicans,” which entirely misses the point. It’s unhelpful and if anything solidifies the very issue that OP is talking about.
How are the Democrats supposed to handle people who clearly have no grip on reality?
You need to stop believing Democrats are the only ones with a grip on reality. There are clearly situations where the Democrats are as ungrounded in reality as Republicans are. Acknowledge that basic fact, and then you sound a lot more trustworthy.
No, I'm sorry. There is such a thing as verifiable fact. I'm not interested in validating stupidity.
Name calling poll respondents and other posters as stupid is unnecessary and rude.
The "F Your Feelings" crowd is offended.
No, the normal people crowd think it’s unnecessary and rude.
Being nice to people who believe in equality of opinion is partially what got us here.
American citizens do have a right to their own opinions, and everyone’s opinions are important. So are you representing yourself as a democrat and you are stating that some people’s opinions are more important than other people’s opinions? Can you tell me who has important opinions and who has unimportant opinions? And you don’t think Americans should be “nice” to other Americans with different opinions? Is that what you’re saying?
I'll bite. Someone who says the US is a Christian country and as such, our laws and practices must adhere to fundamentalist Christian cannon being imposed on them. That is an opinion. Another opinion is, the US was founded on the freedom to practice one's religion without government interference. These are two contrasting opinions, with the GOP on the former and most rational people on the latter.
You need to come with a lot more evidence that the GOP is pushing Christian fundamentalism. I'm on the right, I listen to all the right wing stuff (Walsh, Shapiro, Tucker, etc) and I've literally never heard them discuss this. Also many of the thought leaders in the GOP are Catholic, which is by definition not fundamentalism.
then you are not paying attention forcing schools to display the ten comandments and denying abortion on religious grounds are absolutely imposing religion.
That's not Christian fundamentalist tho. That's religion, but not fundamentalist or even Christian.
it is part of one religion that a minority of the people are imposing on others.
People practicing their religion isn’t imposing it on others. Nobody on the right wants to impose their religion on others. That’s a made up story to scare people.
oh, really? [twitter]https://x.com/KOCOAbigail/status/1806364217991135500[/twitter]
Yeah? And blue state force their religion of gender identity in schools. As an atheist, I see no difference in the fanaticism.
+100. I haven’t heard stories about public school teachers lecturing students about Jesus. I have seen them teaching 7 year olds that they can choose to be a boy or a girl or neither. Signed, another atheist
So you want to force kids to grow up in a box and not into their true straight, gay or whatever selves?
No. Kids can grow up and become gay or straight at the developmentally appropriate ages. However they will never be able to become the opposite sex.
Very true. They also won't be able to become giraffes or medieval kings or attack helicopters.
