Some great responses here re leaf. But getting back to the important stuff. We have friends who have suggested they'd sponsor us and I'd like to be prepared for when it comes up again. What is the actual initiation fee and when is it due? Have heard mixed things and though we could afford the numbers I've seen, $150k is a different cost/benefit analysis than $100k. And what is the current wait time? I feel like I see people getting in a few years after applying, but maybe I'm missing something. Yes, we know we can/will discuss this with our sponsors, but having some answers ahead of time helps with the conversation.
PP - Friends going through the process now. They’re in the final stages and it’s been about two years. Not sure what that specifically entailed though there were several events they attended along the way. They didn’t share nor did I ask about the cost but from a separate source I’ve heard all in it’s closer to $125k for initial fees and then there are annual dues. Friends are black and would describe them as centrist liberals. Successful professionally and very kind, genuine people. Think they have many neighbors who belong and like the amenities of the club. There is also a professional element in that several colleagues of theirs belong and I suspect based on a comment they made (could be way off on this) they may get some subsidy from their respective firm for country club annual dues. You do have to be sponsored and I know from what they shared that there is a lengthy recommendation process. When my friend shared the details I remember thinking, forget the money, I don’t have enough friends to ever apply for a club like this. Recall them saying it was a 12+ recommendations of people who you knew well and who were connected to the club.
This is enough information to identify the family, PP. You say very nice things about them but I would be careful providing this much specificity on DCUM.
