Funny. When I hear people are going on trips instead of seeing cousins or grandparents or family I think they are oddly selfish. We have more money and access to trips than most and we choose to spend the holidays with extended family. Anyone that thinks we could not travel to Europe or to Caribbean is silly. We have no interest. [/quote]

Same here. It’s just a given we would travel to see cousins and grandparents and aunts and uncles. I feel sorry for kids that don’t have those networks because instead their parents want to go party with their friends elsewhere. [/quote]

Same here! My family is in Europe and we visit twice a year. Husband’s family is in a famous beach place in South America and we visit there once every two years too… 
To be honest when people that we don’t know well ask what are our plans, I usually just say we are going to visit family. I won’t lie if they ask more, but usually people don’t…. It’s small talk and nothing more. I could not care less if people stay in DC or go to Aspen or Paris and I don’t assume they are rich if they do and poor if they don’t. There are cheap ways to travel (I guess not super cheap, but it does not have to break the bank)[/quote]
