TO is a way to allow URM and hooked kids in and not have it blow their stats. It is crazy to say it, but having him apply with a 1500 and get accepted lowers their stats. So does he offer enough in other areas to warrant their stats being lowered??? Schools should be test required or test blind - TO is a crazy middle ground leaving kids who otherwise have great stats in limbo.
TO has been around since the 1970s, lady. Then Covid-19 made it necessary for a year or two. Now these schools are trying to figure out if they prefer it or if they want to go back to test required. Hooked legacy and URM did not make it happen. Did you take a really long nap between 2019 and 2021?
Wrong. Duke only recently became TO …due to Covid. It was not around in 1970 for Duke. 😉 Duke does not want its admitted stats lowered - so it perfectly happy playing the TO game…and the people that are affected the most are unhooked white/asian males with SAT/ACT, In the top 5%, just not in the top 99% - difference of just a few questions that would not have made such a difference pre-Covid. https://www.wunc.org/education/2021-04-06/duke-university-tried-test-optional-admissions-and-got-10-000-more-applicants?_amp=true
Ah. Good. You have finally admitted the Duke's adoption of test optional was entirely due to the Covid-19 pandemic and not to privilege the already privileged. Now, with the data from your linked article, maybe you will take note of the fact that the stats you claim Duke is trying to preserve were dramatically impacted by the pandemic and 20% increase in applications. The kids are the same. And the same kids that would have thrived in 2014 with a 1500 will thrive in 2024 with a 1500.
