This is crazy. All the people arrested and released will be looting again tonight, and tomorrow, and the next day. We need more prisons. Honestly, that's the only solution at this point. This entire population of criminals should be swept up and locked away. They have no value-add to society.
It's called BAIL. Welcome to reality. This is not new. This is not exclusive to any political party.
But setting a low ball bail is exclusive to certain ideologies. Set that crap sky high and let them sit.
+100
Serious question, how many inmates are you willing to house and feed? The average cost per inmate is $130,000 per year.
Why feed and house inmates at $130K? That's a waste of money and resources. Build a mega prison with cheap overhead and throw them in there. There's no reason to spend any money on these folks when there's no return on investment. And we can stop death penalty appeals. That is a time suck.
We already have mega prisons. Do you mean we should build concentration camps and gas people for looting Athleta?
That would be considerable cheaper. I doubt this is their first merry-go-round. These are likely juveniles on their 4th, 5th, + criminal incident with no future prospects. We do not need them. What we do need are more mega prisons. Make them for profit if needed. Prison labor can be used for hire to make it self sustaining. There's got to be a solution because they do not belong in society. We cannot put retailers or services in low income communities because the people that live there with rob and loot these very institutions. They continue to dig their own graves.
This is a terrifying glimpse into the Fox News-addled brain of your average Republican. Jesus Christ.
seriously these people are nuts. It’s getting scary how uneducated and unprincipled these people are. It’s all ID.
People angry about organized crime sprees going unpunished are the unprincipled ones? Makes sense! How’s life in the suburbs? Probably pretty safe away from where crime actually happens. We are all impressed with your righteous indignation.
Why do you keep saying they are not being charged? Can’t you read the arrest reports?
Because 67% of crimes went unprosecuted in the district in 2022 by a liberal Biden da. Because we don’t have a fking working crime lab for years. Because our progressive city council has implemented the Youth Rehab act to let out criminals early. Or the second look act to shield violent criminal records. Because we let speeders keep their license with $12k in speeding tickets and they hit and killed three people on rock creek. Pay fking attention. Your Johnny come lately knowledge to how things work with crime and punishment in DC shows you have no clue how lenient this town is and how offenders get off time and time again. Because we have a progressive council l
You seem to be on some personal tirade but we are discussing Philadelphia here.
The trend is that blue cities like Philly, Portland, DC have, mainly as a response to George Floyd in 2020, have implemented progressive criminal justice policies which are tantamount to leniency. These looters will have a no bail policy for example. Or they will have a progressive judge intent on not prosecuting. Basically, to anyone paying attention crime is rising, but as a direct result of criminals knowing that they get a free pass under these new policies, there are no serious punishments anymore.
Portland went mad in the pandemic but Philadelphia and San Francisco changed pre-pandemic and are worse now. We lived in Center City Phila for many years and that area was great around Rittenhouse Square. Philly and DC comparable areas? now several who downsized - condos, apt- now moving out. Some long term residents are moving out . DC has had a rather rapid decline compared to Philly and SF - Conn Ave, Foggy Bottom, Cathedral Heights.
