Clergy— genuinely ethical and principled clergy worried about their congregations— were absolutely instrumental in helping women secure abortions before they were legal. The Chicago Jane network got numerous referrals from clergy and clergy (respected in a way women just weren’t) got up in front of state legislatures to advocate for abortion. [/quote] Yep.
