You have to jump through all sorts of hoops to retain a child, and it marks you as a bad teacher if you think a child should not be promoted -- better not try it too often![/quote] Baltimore City teacher here. It’s next to impossible to retain a student anymore. I have kids who have failed every subject all year and they still won’t let me retain them. Some of the reasons given are poor attendance, being an English language learner, parents not agreeing to it. [/quote]
