This is the procedure they are to follow. "VERBAL REPORT: All hate-bias incidents must be reported to the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD)" https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/uploadedFiles/compliance/FY23_QUICK%20REFERENCE%20Hate%20Bias%20Procedures.pdf
It’s not a hate-bias incident.
Of course it is. Middle school kids know exactly what they are doing
It’s *obviously* not a crime. There is zero evidence of crime. You don’t report non-crimes to the police. False reports ARE crimes. This is a school discipline issue.
It doesn't have to be a crime. Read the linked document. It specifically says hate-bias incidents must be reported to the police. If you don't like that, feel free to submit testimony at the next BOE meeting.
Exactly--seeing the variety of opinions here, some will see it as a reportable incident and some will not. But it's not solely up to the principal to make that call. So she brought in the police to give their input. And they found it was not worthy of pursuit. Fine, at least the principal is not the one responsible for making that decision, as she shouldn't be. If she had done nothing, I guarantee there would be another thread on that. It's not like these kids were arrested and thrown in prison. My kid attends the school and doesn't even know who it was. But I do think that Wood could do a better job with other racially-charged incidences. I feel that those are often swept under the rug or ignored, especially those being perpetrated by POC.
There is zero evidence the principal thought this was a crime. And zero rationale for why this “crime” as opposed to all the other actual crimes (assaults, drugs) would be reported to the police.
