I think he emotionally and physically abused her, she was afraid of him but put up an act around others like every thing was ok. Abusers have a pattern of abusing and being super loving to keep the partner there. The partner thinks they just have to get through the incident and get back to the good times. The partner at first makes up excuses for the abusers behavior, convinces themselves that things are going to get better. Eventually realizes abuser will kill them if they leave. Years if that, with incidents getting increasingly violent, partner finally gets up the nerve to leave, carefully planning it all out without telling abuser. Something sets the abuser off and this time she ends up dead. She let him know she was going to leave him, or he figured that out, or she just said something that angered him. Maybe he accuses her of something. It doesn’t have to be true for him to believe it, such as an affair. Abusers accuse their partners if stuff all the time. They had been drinking, he’s mentally unstable. He kills her in a fit of rage, not planned. Clean up is poorly done because he’s hungover, didn’t sleep, has got his three kids there, and isn’t supposed to leave his house without permission. Also he probably thinks he’s a lot smarter than he is.
