Adult pot smoker in my 40s here. Most adults don’t hotbox because we realize its going to smell. This is not an activity that tends to continue after people move out of their parents house. If most adults smoke in the car it is with all windows down, nowhere near our place of employment. Neighbors daughter was laying the groundwork to set the cleaners up for any/all smell in the future.
Another adult pot smoker here. Great post except for the last sentence. If I'm headed some place (a hike, gym, friends place, restaurant, etc) and want to get high first, it will be 2 or 3 quick hits off a bowl with the windows down. The smell will be gone within seconds. Few people older than 18 are driving around in a suburban neighborhood acting like Cheech and Chong, especially if they are here illegally and thus want to avoid interaction with the police. The last sentence makes no sense. How would accusing the next door cleaners get her out of being caught smoking weed "in the future"? Get caught smoking weed next week and blame it on the cleaners across the street last Tuesday?
DP but she knows she has a mom who wants to believe she's clean. So she told her not only that she thinks the cleaners smoke weed, but that they were hotboxing so much the smell got into the garage *across the street* when they opened the door (even though the smell was not on the cleaners or in OP's house). And the mom believed her, because she wants to believe. So she will likely believe her if next week she says "do you smell weed" and daughter says "yes would you believe it? Those illegal cleaners drove by with the windows down!" Rational people wouldn't fall for that, but OP's neighbor is not rational on this point and her daughter knows it. Drug addicts are very manipulative.
