OP here. Yes, I am getting out. This has all escalated. He has followed me around the house screaming at me and calling me the "c" word in front of the kids when he's angry, among other terrible names. The other day I came downstairs and he turned to the kids and said, "mom looks good, for once! Hahaha". He said if I tried to leave he can't wait to see me "out on the street". So yeah, I'm done and have already consulted a lawyer and am making plans.
Great! Another win for DCUM! We won't stop until everyone is divorced!
No. This is a win for DCUM because another woman is getting out from under the thumb of a controlling partner. Nobody here advocates divorce all the time. Most of the MoFos on this thread told the OP she was partly in the wrong (she wasn't) because she didn't "compromise" (she should not have) or because she wore the wrong color (she didn't) or because a little gentle ribbing was normal and OK (maybe that's true, but what her husband did wasn't gentle ribbing). It's a win for a woman to stop being bullied. It is a win for the children to see that their mother won't accept being bullied. It's a win for the OP to find her strength.
How do you know that she isn't the bully?
Then, divorce is the suitable answer in that case. Fair?
