In with a 3.9UW and 33 ACT. White male, no hooks. If you're not a Gator you're gator bait!
Yeah, I wouldn’t use that phrase. It’s racist.
Jesus Christ.
Just another cracker who doesn’t seem to care that Blacks were fed to alligators as “gator bait”. That’s where the phrase comes from.
“Cracker” sounds racist too. One seems accidental, the other seems intentional.
A white person who is ignorant of that term’s origin and the declines to apologize for using it … that’s poor character. We can do better. I have never used that term and didn’t know its racist origin. Thank you for educating me!
I’m confused, which word did you use? One is certainly racist (and intentional), the other seems to be (I trust your facts, as I never knew) but was accidental. Both are bad (if your assumptions are true), but the intentional use of a racist word is even worse. Words are just letter, but meanings and intent can be very harmful.
People who prattle on about anti-White racism are tiresome and have poor character. Sure, both are bad. Anti-Black racism is entrenched, endemic, and deadly. Trot your faux victimization wares to someone else. Signed, Middle Aged White Lady
So, to be clear, ma’am: it’s ok for you to use a racist word intentionally to call out another’s use of a racist word (assuming you are correct as I don’t know) unintentionally. Interesting times.
“Assuming you are correct as I don’t know”??? Educate yourself. Google is your friend. You have been given a heads up that it is a horrible thing to say. Is this still common refrain by students at UF in 2022? Embarrassing
All I know, ma’am is that you were not only name-calling, but used a racist name to call out the offender. No one else was name calling nor using a racist word with harmful intent, but you.
Actually, I wrote this as a NP. So I wasn’t name calling or using any racist names. Never have and never will. Just stop.
But you did automatically assume one party was white, correct? You inserted race by assuming the original poster was white and using a racial term intentionally. Many folks are this earth (white, black, brown, etc) have used that expression, especially a student from a school that has an alligator as a mascot, not knowing about a picture 100 years ago. “ _____ (insert any predator) bait” is a pretty common expression. But again, you assumed those using it are white and we’re doing it until ally. That’s the classic example of racism, ma’am. And, I’m a URM, so I am speaking from a position of knowledge. You should know that too, and do better.
