I'm not the OP. If that is the case, then all the more reason that school administration should have had a plan in place for a regular substitute and additional support for the class to avoid disadvantaging the students while the teacher goes through this difficult time.[/quote]

The issue, again, is that there aren't any subs for the admins to acquire.  Over the past few years, we've had one teacher go through many rounds with cancer.  She's missed between 6-20 weeks every school year of the past 3.  From what we've heard, she's going to be out again probably starting in March until the end of the year.  There is no one willing to take on a leave for that length of time so her class will probably go through sub after sub.  It's a terrible situation all around.  Part of me thinks she should just retire (she's early 50's) and at the same time I know she needs the health insurance.  [/quote]

Right. This is so horrible for her. I can't even imagine. Just as I can't imagine why people can't have compassion for her. In an ideal world, or pretty much every other civilized nation, she'd have support and the school would have a replacement teacher. But we live here and she's got to work or die while you complain about her. [/quote]
