So what I heard is that a CYA coach went around to different leagues this summer trying to find a league that would let him coach their first team and bring a group of AAU players in to play together on their first team to get access to the FCYBL games. This must be that guy and McLean must have said yes. Since Concepcion wasn't an existing McLean parent, he didn't have any loyalty to the existing McLean families and saw that having a winning amazing team would be great for his side business of basketball training. OK, this is making sense now.
The coach you are talking about was just trying to find a team for his son. This guy coaches CYA AAU’s A team and is affiliated with about 5 other AAU organizations so he knows a lot of kids who can play. The problem was that CYA has a “good ol boy network” and they don’t select the best players for their teams. The 7th grade travel coach has cut players from Nova94 Orange and the PBYL to get kids on the team who are basically “house league” level players. Of course the type of players getting cut are going to have options. And other serious players and coaches will be turned off by such the practices of the CYA travel teams coaching. Now, You have a CYA AAU A team head coach who doesn’t even want his kid playing with CYA Travel. And I’m sure it’s probably the CYA parents making the most noise about what’s going on. Address the politics over at CYA, before you try to stir up a bunch of it in the FCBYL. If you don’t want the teams to suck and would like to win games, deal with the situation at home.
So you are Coach B?
No, but I do know him, live an eligible zip code and had conversations with him about my son playing with CYA AAU a few years ago. I told him he@@no due to the racism a good friend of mine experienced with his kid at CYA and the board members over there. People want to deal with that BS. I took my 7th grade son to an open gym hosted by CYA’s 7th grade coach R a couple years ago and I witnessed my son’s friends end up with a knot the size of a golfball on his forehead because of the stupidity of Coach R. I knew then he wasn’t the coach for my son. At this young I want my kids to learn about competition, learning to play with integrity, and focus player development. As long as they are safe, I am happy when they get to play against competitive teams. The more competitive, the better.
You certainly know a lot of details for a guy who talked to him once a long long time ago. Very sus.
