Wow. I had always assumed the people blocking up the left lane were just clueless. But it sounds like some are people intentionally choosing to block traffic as some kind of control thing? Wow. That is messed up.
Roads are messed up. Aggressive crazies are intentionally choosing to weave in and out like playing a video game on a real highway.
Why would they weave if the left lane is open to pass?
Because the DC beltway is almost always clogged in all lanes. Your idea of a free left lane is a total fantasy. You're crazy and selfish for wanting everyone else to squeeze over during rush hour so you can keep going 90. Either become certified to drive an ambulance or move back to an empty state if you want that kind of treatment.
Oh please this thread is not at all about the Beltway at rush hour and you know it.
Yes it is. The beltway during rush hour is where most of DCUM commenters drive. You're the one imagining some lone mystery highway where the left lane is always free...
No, the beltway at rush hour is one of many strawmen raised by people in this thread who don't want to follow the rules of the road and, in some states, the law regarding staying to the right. Other strawmen include (1) Everyone passing me is speeding excessively (i.e., everyone going faster than me is going dangerously fast) (2) Everyone who comes up behind me is tailgating me (yes, tailgating happens, but not everyone who wants to pass you is doing that) (3) Everyone who wants to pass me is filled with road rage (4) Everyone who is passing me is a crazy person weaving in and out of traffic. I'm still amazed by how many people are resistant to a relatively simple behavior (staying to the right except to pass) that is designed to help all of us share the road safely. For many on this thread (e.g., 70 MPH in cruise control on the left), it seems like they expect every other person on the road to accommodate them with no reciprocation. There are lots of times outside of rush hour when the beltway is not jammed, when 270 or 66 is free flowing, when the GW parkway is relatively empty, etc where this principle would help everyone be safer. And it's an important rule to follow when you are driving somewhere further outside of the city (e.g., huge stretches of 95 headed south are 2-lanes each way).
I am amazed that you are resistant to a relatively simple behavior of driving under the speed limit
I don't believe the implication in your comment that you never speed. Sorry, that's BS. But, since you're so concerned about following each and every law to the letter, I presume you will now start following the laws about not sitting in the left hand lane. Thank you for that.
Yes, if the PP isn't speeding then certainly PP isn't sitting the left lane...so the this thread isn't meant for you.
