I think sahm who uses it as a diaper bag now because she had one when she was in college in an east coast city 15 years ago.
Serious question—do you go out in public ever? I see Longchamp totes all over the place, from Metro to shoppers on 5th Avenue to playgrounds to Rasika.
+2 the Longchamp totes are absolutely everywhere. I think they’ve moved past “trend item” and into “unobtrusive staple” category. Kind of like Uggs at this point.
+1 Before covid, it was the basic tote for commuters. Personally, I prefer my Lo & Sons OG since I often carry two laptops. Nonetheless, I still have an adorable Longchamp zipper pouch purchased in Paris nearly 30 years ago. I tuck it inside my larger tote when traveling.
Maybe TEN YEARS before Covid. I haven't seen a Le Pliage out in the wild on a fashionable woman in a long time.
Reread your post. I stand by my statement. It was common to see at least a dozen longchamp totes during my morning commute from the burbs to dc everyday. I don’t think it was necessarily a fashion choice. I just think it was a basic tote for your laptop, lunch and wallet. Everybody has one…probably purchased a long time ago or perhaps even a gift.
I never see them in close in northern virginia. Where do you live?
NP, but I live in North Arlington and love my Longchamp Le Pliage bags! I carry them everywhere, including on my commute, every day. I have 5 of the large totes and 3 mediums. They are lightweight and hold a laptop easily. They are great for travel too. Each of my kids gets to choose one to use as a carry-on when we travel. My favorite is a navy blue large Le Pliage tote with a cat face -- the "Miaou." I should start carrying it more often. I don't care if people think it is not stylish. I think it is fabulous. Yay for my cat bag! Also, FWIW (probably not much), I work in public-facing profession and people do often tell me that they consider me "fashionable." I think it is probably right that the Longchamp tote itself is not a "fashion statement," but it is definitely a classic and a wardrobe staple for many.
