According to GA state law, what happens if neither of the candidates gets more than 50% of the vote? Is the 50% rule still invoked in a run off election? Does anyone here know?
There are only two candidates in each run off (the top two vote getters in the original election), someone gets 50.0001 percent or more or there is a tie. There is no third run off.
I suppose I could see a universe in which some folks vote for only Warnock or only Purdue and it comes out thusly once non-votes and spoiled ballots (I wouldn't be surprised if triple digits of voters marked both candidates in one race, for example): Warnock 50.3-Loeffler 48.5 Purdue 49.8-Ossoff 49.0 I'm assuming it's purely "whoever gets the most votes here, wins" but it is entirely possible for a candidate here to not get 50% of the total cast ballots.
