So, when all is said and done, religion is a matter of belief and faith. Some of religion's attractive features are the beauty of it's rituals and it's writings, its ageless moral lessons, its love and compassion and, in some religions, its promise of eternal life.
How immature do you have to be, to spend 14 pages on a thread and then write something like this, which ignores many pages of other people disagreeing with you? The DCUM bar for debate is admittedly low, but people who come on to cap with their own spin and even distortions, like this pp, kinda take the cake....
Are you saying it's a "distortion" to conclude "religion is a matter of belief and faith"? I didn't expect that view to be controversial. How is it a distortion?
Broad statements like this aren’t helpful. There have been pages of disagreement on this thread about whether we can rely on the gospels and Paul—on the *text* itself, not whether you believe the content.
and your conclusion is?
Oh please. Agree to disagree. Which was said several times several pages ago, before atheist pp chimed in with her spin. What I don’t understand is atheist trolls who spend 24/7 on here and always, always have to have the last word. Even if it’s a dishonest last word and they don’t seem to get that people like me can go back and read what was actually said.
There are many people posting here. You don’t dictate the direction of the thread. Just because you want to breeze and ignore some points doesn’t mean everyone else must. And your opinion is just your own. There are plenty of other opinions here - some formed based on facts. Weird that facts are so offensive to you. Maybe you want to reflect on that.
Nobody is dictating anything, troll. We’re calling you out on your dishonest “When all is said and done...” attempt to recap the thread into a spin that your opinions carried the day As you just said, there are many opinions here. Which is exactly why your recap, which totally ignores opinions differ from yours, is so dishonest.
How do you know it was pp's recap? Could be the pp just feels the other poster has a right to express their point of view. It's a discussion board not a Christian dogma board. Besides, many believers would agree with the ideas that "Some of religion's attractive features are the beauty of it's rituals and it's writings, its ageless moral lessons, its love and compassion and, in some religions, its promise of eternal life."
Somebody hit a nerve. No, atheist pp doesn’t get to write a “recap” that ignores all other povs. That’s just sleazy.
I thought is was a nice summary, and the most defensible one I've heard. So what's your "pov" and why are you avoiding giving it?
Might not have been an atheist pp and is not presented as a "recap" - but that person's opinion - like most things on this board
Liar. “When all is said and done...” announces a recap.
it seems like a summary opinion of what religion is -- possibly formed before this thread -- and a very broad and kind summary at that. Perhaps missing elements are the hate and condemnation that religion can inspire. These may not be intended features of religion, but they certainly have been demonstrated in this thread. A good "recap" of the thread would have included that.
