“That's not what I see everyday in my Montgomery County neighborhood. So, I'm going to go with what I see with my own eyes, versus data that can be manipulated and falsified (by both parties). My kids go to school will many families who are here illegally. The kids receive a free education from MCPS. Plus, free backpacks and free breakfasts and lunch. MCPS also pays for translators in person, plus translations services for all the newsletters - grade level and schoolwide. Plus a translator at PTA meetings (which still doesn't mean much turnout from the parents). The kids receive free field trips, plus low ratio ESOL instruction for years. The kids also receive free health insurance through the state. Free dental care and free eye care. Free meals in the summer. Where does the money for all these programs come from? Mostly taxpayers. Some privately funded through non-profits. Yes, their parents pay sales taxes, but that's about it. Some of the parents are housekeepers who work for cash only. Some are laborers who also work for cash only. Some do pay taxes as part of their rent, but we're in Twinbrook where many of them rent from illegal renters in SFHs, again paying cash only. “ This is accurate. As for the PPs slamming the poster for providing real world and common sense info that is “counter” to the data - do none of you work for companies that do studies? Data they spit out are determined by how the study is structured. So if you say “are immigrants THEMSELVES a net benefit or drain on FEDERAL resources” the answer will be yes as they mostly do not qualify for stuff yet pay payroll taxes. Not included here usually are the costs of their children - many citizens but that would not be here and using public resources if their parents did not come here. So school costs, strains on local and state public services are somehow magically not counted. Likewise in some studies they omit benefits the kids may be eligible for like Medicaid buexause they are citizens rather than putting these together with the cost of the parents showing up here. The study PBS linked to also seemed to indicate it was only considering legal immigrants not illegal ones as data was harder to gather on them. Data can be made to say all sorts of things...
