At the last reunion, I was talking to a classmate who is now a tenured liberal arts prof at UVA. I asked if he thought the SLAC was worth the extra $$$ over UVA in-state. If a guy who presumably got his very hard to get job (tenured track, liberal arts, top university) on the basis of his education doesn't think it helped him compared to the experience he now provides for others, I'm sure his case is typical and he has no blindspots on that.
