You can't be a top U11 or U12 team with boys or girls without having bigger, more physical, or faster players. At U13 then you can see how teams use the entire field.
My son is a U14 and the teams in the first division are filled with men. We were the shortest, pre-pubescent (most newly 13 Fall bdays) out of the 9 teams. It was shocking how much bigger, taller and thicker the players on those teams were, not more skilled or smarter players for the most part, just more physical. That size advantage for males is a real deal until the kids are 16.
It must be a little discouraging for the skilled but smaller kids. My U11 DD has a late Fall birthday too. I hope she doesn’t get too discouraged in the next few years. She’s one of the better girls on her mid-tier team but I don’t know if it’s wise to have her tryout for a top team (ie BSC Blue, Bordeaux, etc.). Being with her team since Fall 2018, I don’t know if it’s wise to switch teams yet.
