Do you know how big the "Silver Spring" and Wheaton areas are, and much like Bethesda they are unincorporated? And Longwood Center is in Brookeville, not Wheaton or Silver Spring. Jane E. Lawton Community Recreation Center 0.5 miles from the center of Bethesda https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/rec/facilities/recreationcenters/lawton.html Wisconsin Place Community Center 1.7 miles from the center of Bethesda https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/rec/facilities/recreationcenters/wisconsinplace.html Kennedy Shriver Aquatic Center North Bethesda There are 3 you missed.
It’s tiny and nowhere near most of Bethesda . It’s in Chevy Chase which is nowhere near most of Bethesda. So - there are 7 recreational center buildings in Silver Spring, including 3 that are new and extremely expensive but the residents of Bethesda are served because we can drive to an adjacent city to their own small, old recreation center? I think that the answer is that the county council has been heavily skewed towards members from Silver Spring and Takoma and they have inappropriately appropriated county funds to benefit their communities without regard to community members from other areas of the county. To me that says extreme selfishness and corruption and it should be stopped. Our taxes are ridiculously high we should also be receiving county infrastructure here as well - not just high rises and multifamily developments without adequate roads, schools or recreation to support it. Silver spring Rec centers: Ross Boddy, Gwendolyn E Coffield, East County, Good Hope, Long Branch , Longwood, Mid-County, and White Oak. Furthermore, the Kennedy Shriver Center is fine and is used by people to swim laps. It is not a community hub by any means. There are several indoor and outdoor swimming pools in Silver Spring and Takoma Park - why aren’t those enough for Silver Spring? Why do you need a community center then by this logic? Why are there 7 of them in SS then? https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/rec/facilities/aquaticcenters/martinlutherkingjr.html https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/rec/facilities/aquaticcenters/pineybranch.html There’s also the Wheaton / Glenmont , MLK and Long Branch Outdoor Pools. https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/rec/facilities/aquaticcenters/outdoorpools.html
