there are a ton of D1 programs and D2 programs that are really not known for their high-level academics. I know several families who opt not to play D1 lacrosse and rather go to a higher-caliber academic school.
Several families opt out? LMAO
my son fell into their category... he was getting recruited by High Point, Mercer, BU, Fairfield, and St Joseph's.. he decided to give up on D1 lacrosse and ended up getting into UVA on his own. He plays club lacrosse now and loves it.
Glad it worked out for your son and UVA is a great school. I would also note that getting recruited and getting an actual offer are two different things. Coaches recruit many players for each spot that is open. HP, BU and St. Joe's are pretty good mid level D1 programs so I am sure he was getting real interest and he made the right choice. I would say that in the sport of lacrosse there are more high academic programs than not. It is at least 60/40 in D1
