Lots of derision in here from armchair economists. I get that’s what this place is all about, but it’s still amazing folks think their side is the only one worth considering. Folks who have watched how things work for a minute know this project is going ahead. Can’t wait to head to my first concert there in about four years.
I dislike this project, but totally agree with you, it's going to happen.
Whether it happens or not, no one knows. But I know that I will not attend Caps or Wizards games at PY. Not worth 80-90 minutes of travel time each way.
Ted doesn't care if you go or don't go, he's getting a free entertainment district, and he probably figures there'll be enough new fans in Virginia to replace any of us from D.C. or Maryland who don't want to deal with the mess.
This is laughable. PY is not more accessible to most Virginia fans - the blue/yellow lines are too far removed. It's only accessible to Alexandria and Arlington, and most residents there do not want the arena in the first place. You think nearby residents want to support something that is effing up their neighborhood? This whole plan is a disaster. The people will not come. We will all be financially burdened.
PY is LESS accessible to me in Arlington.
This is the thing a lot of people don't get. If you live in Del Ray or Potomac Landing, and maybe right around the Waterfront metro station in DC, then PY is a fine location. For pertty much everyone else in the entire region, PY is MUCH harder to access and will take significantly more time, even for people who live i NoVa. And for the PP above, right now, the Caps are the cash cow. That will change when Ovi retires and the attendance reverts back to what it was pre-Ovi (I am a 30 year season ticket holder, ask me how I know) The Wizards won't draw at all in PY because almost all of the fan base is in DC and MD. So, good luck to Ted and good luck to the VA taxpayers who will be on the hook for the income shortfall.
DMV's true basketball history has nothing to do with NoVa, Arlington, or Alexandria. So, the Wizards will need to develop a completely new fan base, after first becoming respectable.
